Movement of the Museum's Union Pacific locomotive #4018 is scheduled for this coming Sunday, June 16. Although no exact time has been established, departure from Fair Park will likely take place during mid-morning hours. Times and dates are subject to change. We will endeavor to provide as much advance information as possible.

Frisco steam locomotive #4501 arrived at its new home in Frisco, Texas late last night. At 11:00pm, BNSF crews eased the 800,000 lb. locomotive into the Museum of the American Railroad's new site where it will entertain and educate new generations of North Texans.

Dallas-based Texas Industries, Inc. (TXI) has generously agreed to donate concrete for several projects at the Museum's Frisco site. The company, a long-time supplier of concrete to North Texas, has pledged to provide an initial amount of concrete on a donation basis, with additional amounts at a reduced cost.

Just after 4:00pm this afternoon, a BNSF engine and crew eased the first pieces of the Museum's rolling stock collection onto the Frisco site. Taking less than an hour and a half to travel from BNSF's Irving yard, the special train consisted of Santa Fe Motorcar M-160, M-K-T Dining Car #438, Pullman Sleeping Car Glen Nevis, two Armour Ice Reefer Cars, and a 40-ft T&P boxcar.

Fort Worth-based Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway recently completed installation of a switch in its main line through Frisco to provide rail access to the Museum's new site on Cotton Gin Road. The switch will allow the Museum's 40-piece collection of historic locomotives and rail cars to move the 55 rail miles between Dallas and Frisco and enter its new facility on their own wheels. Many of those pieces are not capable of movement by any other means due to their immense size and weight.

After exhausting several other sources, the Museum requested the assistance of Kansas City Southern Lines for the donation of an additional boxcar. KCS graciously agreed to provide an additional car and it arrived at the Museum a few weeks ago.

“Done!” Track work at the Museum’s Frisco site was completed today with a ceremonial driving of the last spikes. Borrowing the word that was telegraphed across the nation in 1869 when the first Transcontinental Railway was finished, we are proud to reach this major benchmark in the construction project.

Track construction at the Museum of the American Railroad’s Frisco site has begun! Workers with Trac-Work, Inc. began placing new crossties on the westernmost end of what will become the Museum’s tail track. The first 300 feet of track material was put in place today as part of a 4,000 foot Phase IA track construction project.

The Museum’s Santa Fe Tower 19 now has the distinction of being the first piece in the collection to arrive in Frisco. The Tower was moved onto the site at 1:15am today following a nearly 3 ½ hour trek from Fair Park. The intermediate and top floors moved one behind the other on separate sets of bogies along streets through East Dallas, North Dallas, and finally up Preston Road to the Frisco city limits. They then traveled west along the 121 service road and finally north along the Dallas North Tollway service road to Cotton Gin Road.

In celebration of Amtrak’s 40th anniversary, America’s Railroad sm is offering the public an opportunity to view an Exhibit Train, a unique traveling display showcasing the railroad’s history. The train will be on display January 7th-8th at the Amtrak Station (1001 Jones Street) in downtown Fort Worth. Event hours are 10:00am to 4:00pm.

The Bass family of Dallas has endorsed the move of the Museum of the American Railroad to Frisco, along with a $20,000.00 gift toward construction of new facilities. Alice W. Bass provided a $10,000.00 contribution which was matched by the Richard D. Bass Foundation.

The lawsuit brought against the Museum of the American Railroad by the City of Dallas following its decision to move to Frisco has been dismissed. Judge Martin Hoffman of the 68th District Court ordered dismissal of the suit today after both parties agreed to a settlement.

DALLAS, TX: The Museum of the American Railroad has received a lead gift from Mr. John D. “Jack” and Sally S. Maxson. The Maxsons are lifelong residents of Dallas. They have graciously contributed $50,000.00 to the Museum as its Capital Campaign for the Frisco site moves forward. This is a substantial cash gift toward the Museum’s goal of $500,000.00 for construction of its Phase 1A facilities in Frisco.

FRISCO, TX: The Museum of the American Railroad has added a rare diesel locomotive from the Smithsonian Institution to its permanent collection. The model PA-1 locomotive will join the museum’s Historic Santa Fe Railway Collection, which comprises several other prized pieces from the line. Built by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) of Schenectady, NY, the locomotive is one of a handful of its type still in existence.

Frisco’s Planning & Zoning Commission approved the museum’s Preliminary Site Plan by a vote of 5-0. The plan provides for three phases of construction over a 25-year period.
