Please be on time in order to get tours underway. As the museum is located in Fair Park, take advantage of the vast grassy areas to have a picnic lunch and explore the rest of the Park.

The Museum is mostly an outdoor museum. Please ensure that students dress appropriately for the weather. No open-toed shoes. Some climbing of stairways is involved, thus limiting accessibility. Restroom facilities are not available.

Museum Rules

The locomotives, cars, and other artifacts in the museum are rare and valuable. Climbing, touching, and handling of equipment is not permitted, except where access is provided.

No food or beverages are allowed aboard the train.

Please do not handle window shades in the cars. Please do not sit or stand on seats.

Planning Your Trip to the Museum

To make your field trip both educational and enjoyable, we recommend that you prepare your students before their visit to the museum and review your students afterward.

Please review the Educational Guides that the Museum has prepared. Many activities can be done before or after the tours.

Influence of the Railroad Minimize

North Texas owes its growth and prosperity to the coming of the railroads. The Museum of the American Railroad offers interpretive programming which includes the history as well as the science & technology of the rail industry.  Explore the influence of technological innovations on everyday life and the vital role the railroad still plays!

Our Museum Educator will bring authentic railroad artifacts and teaching tools into the classroom to help students explore the sciences and history behind the railroad industry, past and present.

Educational Programs Minimize

For booking, please contact Art Reach Booking Service at 214-219-2049 (all year). Teachers receive an Educational Guide with each booked tour. Please provide the teacher's e-mail address upon booking to receive the Educational Guide.

Available Wednesday-Friday. $3.00 per student; $3.00 per adult; one FREE adult for every 15 students. Programs last 45  - 60 minutes.

15 minimum, 100 students maximum

All schools, day cares, and other educational institutions are required to schedule tours at least two weeks in advance. If you are unable to keep your reservation, please cancel at least 72 hours in advance.
